Octopath Traveler Secondary Jobs

In Octopath Traveler, each character is assigned a job which gives them unique skills. However, each character can also unlock a secondary job to further enhance their abilities in combat.

To get the most out of a character’s playstyle, it’s important to know what their sub-job is. To do this, it’s necessary to visit each job class’s shrines.

Warrior

Octopath Traveler is an RPG that puts you in control of up to four characters in turn-based battles. The game aims to pay homage to SNES-era JRPGs while also introducing new mechanics. One of the most unique aspects of Octopath Traveler is its “break” system, which allows enemies to break from a battle if their defense strength drops to zero.

The eight characters in the game (Ophilia, Cyrus, Tressa, Olberic, Primrose, Alfyn, Therion and H’aanit) have their own separate stories, each with their own unique goals and quests to complete. But they all share a common goal in Octopath Traveler: they all fight to save the world of Orsterra.

While many of the characters have a more traditional “start from the bottom and kill god” storyline, others have significantly darker plot threads. For example, Cyrus stumbles upon a cult that engages in human sacrifice on his quest for knowledge. Other characters, like Olberic and Ophilia, are trying to reclaim their honor as warriors from a ruined kingdom, while Primrose seeks the secret society of the Obsidians that murdered her father.

H’aanit is a Hunter who is adept at using bows and critical hits to deal physical damage. She can also capture monsters in combat and bolster her attack power with Warrior skills such as Abide and Surpassing Power, which both focus on maximizing the physical capabilities of her job.

The Warriors are a great choice for a supporting job in octopath traveler, as they excel at using Swords and Polearms to deal both single- and multi-target physical damage. They are also the only job in the game that has a “taunt” skill, making enemies target them instead of their allies.

Cleric

Clerics are one of the most important characters in Octopath Traveler, and a key part of their overall role is that they can help your party with a number of different tasks throughout the game. These include healing, buffing, and a variety of other abilities that will help them perform their job effectively.

In order to take advantage of these abilities, clerics must build up their base character stats and attributes. This includes strength, dexterity, and constitution.

These ability scores will determine how well your cleric can deal with the challenges in octopath traveler, so it is important that you build them up in a way that works for your playstyle. It is also a good idea to consider feats for these ability score increases.

You will also need to think about your spell list and the spells you will want to use the most often in combat. As a cleric you have a set of prepared cleric spells that you can pick from at the start of each day (if you don’t already have them) based on your Wisdom modifier + your cleric level.

Besides that, your cleric has access to certain “ritual spells” that you can cast without using any spell slots when the time comes to do so. These are usually investigation and roleplaying type spells that you might want to use for things like identifying a target, or suggesting a different course of action.

The Knowledge Domain is a popular option for clerics in D&D 5e, and if you are looking to make your cleric more of an exploratory or intrigue-focused character then this domain could be the right choice for you. Especially since it offers a lot of spells that are more focused on exploration and skill-building than other cleric domains.

Thief

Octopath Traveler may seem like a simple RPG at first, but it hides a lot of depth under its old-school RPG hood. As you progress through the game, each character gets access to a series of secondary jobs that can change their stats and abilities in ways you’ve never thought possible.

Ultimately, picking the right secondary job for each character can have huge effects on how well your party does. We’ll give you a list of each characters secondary jobs in this article, so you can make the most out of them and help your heroes reach their ultimate goals.

The Thief Class is one of the most versatile in Octopath Traveler, offering both offensive and supportive skills at once. This makes them an ideal complement to other classes such as the Cleric or the Warrior.

As a thief, you can restore HP and SP, as well as share these resources with other characters. This means that you can get a lot of extra damage out in the early game without having to use costly items or carry too much health.

In addition to this, a Thief can reduce their opponents’ stats by applying debuffs such as Shackle Foe and Armor Corrosive. This means that they can whittle down the strength of enemies’ armor and weapon, making them easier to kill in some circumstances.

The Hunting sub-job is another great choice for Alfyn as it gives him more weapon and break coverage and lets him deal physical damage with ease. In addition, this job lets him take advantage of the Rest ability, restoring his HP and SP before striking back with full force. This makes him one of the best characters in Octopath Traveler to deal with tough late-game bosses as he can quickly heal himself and his allies, then attack them full-force with no worry of losing his health or SP.

Apothecary

In Octopath Traveler, players will choose a character to embark on their adventure across the land of Solistia. Each character has their own story to tell, and the path they take will change depending on what choices they make along the way.

All of these characters can also use special Path Actions to interact with NPCs, discover information or items, or even fight enemies. These Path Actions can be triggered at any time, and they may have different outcomes based on the player’s decisions.

Castti Florenz is one of the eight main protagonists in Octopath Traveler 2. She has amnesia that leaves her background and origins a mystery. Luckily, she still remembers her healing skills, so she can heal others without issue.

Her apothecary ability Concoct allows her to create potions that can be used to support your party or inflict damage or status ailments on enemies. She can use herbs, fruits, nuts, and other gathered ingredients to concoct potions that heal, cause or remove status effects, and regenerate the BP used in the Boost and Break system.

Apothecaries have a strong focus on healing their allies in Octopath Traveler. In addition to the basic Apothecary skill Rest, which restores HP and SP, they also have First Aid and Rehabilitate, both of which allow them to heal a single target.

Both skills are powerful for early-game damage and utility, but they get weaker in the midgame when Brand’s Thunder and Aebers Reckoning become more viable options for physical damage and Rehabilitate’s protection from threatening bosses is less relevant.

Tressa can be very effective as an Apothecary, especially when paired with the Warrior job’s skill Incite to let her intercept enemy attacks on her allies’ behalf while restoring her own HP. She can also make good use of the Apothecary job’s three support skills, Hale and Hearty (which increases her HP), Rehabilitate (which not only removes ailments but renders her targets immune to new ailments for a few turns) and Heightened Healing (which allows her to deal additional damage with each attack she makes).

Warmaster

A Secondary Job is a unique addition to Octopath Traveler which allows characters to take on a different role than their primary Job. Having this extra role adds a whole new layer of customization and ownership to the adventure.

It’s an interesting mechanic to have in a game where the focus is on the weaker classes and gives you the chance to make your heroes better than they may have originally been. In fact, the perks and skills that your secondary job unlocks are incredibly powerful, so a lot of thought must go into choosing the right one for your character.

Thankfully, Square Enix has made this process a breeze by placing shrines throughout the world which are linked to different jobs. The eight core jobs can be unlocked simply by finding the related shrine, but there are also four more advanced jobs which require players to conquer tough late-game bosses in order to unlock them.

As you can imagine, each of these four jobs has its own set of benefits and weaknesses. However, for the most part, the Warmaster is a great choice to equip if you’re looking for an Octopath Traveler character that can dish out some of the most physical damage possible in the game.

The Warmaster has access to Swords, Polearms, Daggers, Axes, Bows, and Staves, which give 12 percent more Physical Attack and Physical Defense as well as 6 percent more Accuracy, Speed, and Evasion. They also have access to a variety of weapon abilities, such as Nightmare Chimera and Winnehild’s Battle Cry which are single-shot weapons that deal damage to a large number of enemies.

Having said that, it’s important to note that the Warmaster isn’t quite as powerful as a character like Olberic or H’aanit, largely due to the low maximum SP cost and the high SP cost of the Warmaster Divine Skill. Fortunately, Therion is a fantastic option to equip as a Warmaster thanks to his Steal SP ability which makes up for the cost of the Warmaster Divine skill and enables him to act as a never-ending SP battery.
